Laurieann Gibson on Gaga

Posted On: February 10th, 2010 | Author: Ryan | Category: Uncategorized

The “Telephone” music video has been officially shot and choreographer Laurieann Gibson joined with Cherrytree Radio to talk about some of the video’s details. Gibson, who calls herself the dancing branch of Cherrytree, was there to talk about what happened on the set with Lady GaGa & Beyoncé.

The so-called “attitude consultant to the stars” says that everyone will be “losing their minds” over the choreography in the music video. Gibson said that they even do a “sandwich dance,” whatever that dance move may be.

Gibson, who is also working with Robin Thicke as well as GaGa, says you just gotta “kick-ball change” the haters!

On working with Lady GaGa, she jokingly said she needed “morning prayer.” She also commented on GaGa’s work ethic and said that she is “fearless.”

Lady Gaga on Hunger Strike Because of Skarsgård?

Posted On: February 9th, 2010 | Author: Ryan | Category: Uncategorized

Say it ain’t so!

We all totally heart Lady Gaga and her ridiculous ways. It’s why she’s music’s saving grace right now! But according to members of Gaga’s inner circle, the Hollywood pressure is really starting to take its toll on the once rebellious gal.

But could it all be ’cause she’s crushing on that dude we’re all crushing on?

Otherwise known as Alexander Skarsgård? Looks like it.

To back up a bit, a source deep inside Camp Gaga tells us people have been on her ass (no pun intended) to lose weight, to begin with. Supposedly, Gaga’s “Paparazzi” video shoot last April is when things started get touchy on the subject of weight.

“Producers had to shoot around her,” ‘fesses someone who had to witness the incident go down.

“They draped fabric over her thighs and shot her backside with a softer lens,” adds our eyewitness source. “They did everything they could to hide her not-so-flattering areas.”

We’re told the negative comments by onlookers were so harsh that the usually confident Gaga has become so self-conscious that she’s practically stopped eating altogether. Tell us this isn’t true, please!

For the record, Gaga’s rep wouldn’t comment bubkes on the issue, so no help from Ms. G’s official circles, at least. But the off-record kind continue:

“She’s already lost about 20 pounds,” says a knowledgeable pal close to the situation. “She says she is always hungry. She isn’t doing a specific diet. She just isn’t eating.”

OK, granted 20 is an overexaggeration by our source (and Gaga, we’re sure). But we have noticed that the babe’s, how do we put it, toned up a lot. Could a major reason for the weight reduction be True Blood hunk—and Lady’s “Paparazzi” costar—Alexander Skarsgård?

Claims our Gaga insider:

“Alexander was her love interest in the video and he was apparently very open about being less than enthusiastic about having to kiss her during the shoot,” sasses Deep Gaga. “Alex didn’t say anything to her face, but he made comments under his breath to crew members and made facial expressions that made it obvious that he was not into it.”

Well, that’s not too surprising, considering Skarsgård goes for the skinny Kate Bosworth on certain nights.

We’re just disgusted by this!

And, no, not by the supposed weight issue (we’ve always thought L.G. looked fierce), but because anyone who told Gaga she was too heavy is on crack. Maybe she wasn’t rail thin like most people in this friggin’ business, but isn’t that why we all love her…because she’s the antithesis of Hollywood?

Honey, pen a song about all those haters and pick up some animal-style fries at In-N-Out Burger if you’re still in town. We heart ya because you don’t give a crap! So don’t start now.

The five stages of Lady Gaga fever

Posted On: January 18th, 2010 | Author: Ryan | Category: Press

Over the course of the last 12 or so months, America has become infected with what can only be described as Lady Gaga Fever.

In 2009, the 23-year-old dance-pop diva-in-the-making scored two of iTunes’ 10 top-selling songs with “Poker Face” (No. 3) and “Just Dance” (No. 6), while her debut album, “The Fame,” ranked as the year’s third-best seller on the iTunes charts.

She’s also up for five awards at this month’s Grammys, including Album, Record and Song of the Year; and she won three awards at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards, including Best New Artist.

But more than awards and accolades, Gaga has captivated the music world by getting people to talk — about her outrageous sense of style, her over-the-top performances and yes, her music. That avalanche of buzz led to her selling out two shows at Detroit’s Fox Theatre which, due to production concerns, were shuffled to Joe Louis Arena.

We, too, have found ourselves coming under a spell of Lady Gaga fever, which is less deadly than the swine flu but just as contagious.

As best as we can tell, it hits in five stages, which we’ve detailed here. Consider the following information a guide to help you identify what stage you’re in, and to see where you’re soon headed:

1. Confusion

The first thing you tend to ask when you are confronted with the artist born Stefani Germanotta is who or what is a Lady Gaga?

It’s a lot to take at first, and anyone who sees the native New Yorker wearing an outfit made of bubbles or dressed head to toe — literally, head to toe — in red lace might simply shake their head in bewilderment. Her look is confrontational, and she’s not carved out of the same supermodels-as-singers mold as the Beyoncés, Britneys and Christinas of the world. And what’s with that name — Gaga? What does that even mean? This mystified state then leads to …

2. Dismissal

The jaded music fan is quick to write off Gaga as all style, no substance. She needs to wear those outfits to make people talk! She needs to create controversy to overshadow the fact her songs are idiotic dance-pop trifles! (Similar criticisms have belied Gaga’s forebears, including Madonna.)

You see the existence and popularity of Gaga as an affront to your esteemed, finely honed musical tastes. Yet as soon as you become indignant enough to say she epitomizes everything that’s wrong with music today, you’ve already fallen into her vortex. Because soon that dismissal leads to …

3. Curiosity

You simply can’t believe how far she goes in some of those live performances, whether she’s staging her own assassination at the MTV Video Music Awards (complete with copious amounts of fake blood) or breaking bottles over a piano at the American Music Awards, so you seek out more examples to build your case against her. (That’s what YouTube is for, isn’t it?) And suddenly you start to realize, hey, those songs you first sloughed off aren’t so bad after all.

Take “Poker Face,” which on the surface is another in a long line of empty, synth-laden club tracks, but in actuality is a bi-curious lament about pining after women when you’re with a man, or vice versa. Or “Paparazzi,” a love song wrapped in a metaphor for our fame-obsessed, celebrity-driven times, with the relationship in the song mirroring the paparazzi/star dynamic.

In short, they’re smart — plus they’re amazingly catchy. A few spins of either and they’ll be stuck in your head, rattling around your brain, until you realize you don’t really mind so much anymore. Your defenses are starting to fall. Your Gaga curiosity has now led to …

4. Acceptance

You download “Poker Face” and probably “Bad Romance,” too, and come to grips with the fact they’re really good pop songs. And when you overhear others who are in the Confusion or Dismissal phases of Lady Gaga Fever, you find yourself defending her, and arguing how you were once there, too, but have overcome your initial doubts and turned into a fan. Heck, maybe you even bought a ticket to one of her concerts. You then recognize your acceptance has lead to …

5. Obsession

Gaga has got you in her trap, and there’s nothing to feel ashamed about. She is an ambitious performance artist with a striking visual style and an image that is totally of her own volition. She writes her own hits, and is not a product of some Swedish pop conglomeration with nefarious plans of world domination. She’s in-your-face and provocative, she demands attention and earns the strong response she gets from people. She’s a risk-taker.

Yes, Gaga is a confluence of her influences, a direct descendant of David Bowie, Madonna, Liberace, “Project Runway” and Us Weekly. But apart from that, she’s an original.

So if there’s a cure for Lady Gaga Fever, keep it, we’re not interested. This romance is so bad it’s good.

Gaga’s Exclusive Statement to Billboad

Posted On: January 18th, 2010 | Author: Ryan | Category: Uncategorized

Such is Lady Gaga’s exuberance upon learning that, with a 2-1 lift for “Bad Romance” on Billboard’s Pop Songs radio airplay chart, she becomes the first artist in the survey’s 17-year history to send her first five singles to No. 1.

Just as impressively, a year ago this week, Lady Gaga had yet to lead the list. She first reigned 51 weeks ago, on the chart dated Jan. 24, 2009, when “Just Dance” began a two-week stay at the summit.

The next three singles from her debut album, “The Fame,” also ruled: “Poker Face” (five weeks, beginning April 25), “LoveGame” (two weeks, beginning July 25) and “Paparazzi” (two weeks, beginning Nov. 14). “Bad Romance” is the lead single from “The Fame Monster,” which also includes the chart’s No. 27 song, “Telephone,” featuring Beyonce.

In less than a year’s time, Lady Gaga has launched into a tie for second-most No. 1s in the Pop Songs chart’s history. Since the chart bowed in October 1992, Mariah Carey (who similarly arrived with five consecutive No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1990-91) leads with six No. 1s. Beyonce, Avril Lavigne, Pink, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and now Lady Gaga follow with five chart champions.

Lady Gaga tells Billboard exclusively, “Just six months ago, ‘Bad Romance’ was nothing but a dream, a recurring melody, a lyric hidden on a napkin on my tour bus.

“Now, it’s my fifth No. 1 record, and a reminder to fans to always follow their dreams. I would like to thank all my beautiful little monsters and my incredibly supportive team for the most memorable year of my life.

“To have had such a phenomenal reception to my second album, ‘The Fame Monster,’ is life-changing.
